Ian J asked:
I just made a couple dozen pints of strawberry freezer jam. For some reason I was under the impression that Ball brand mason jars were able to be frozen as well as canned. Come to find out there are ‘can or freeze’ type jars, which appear to be slightly tapered. Now that I’ve got it all in the regular jars and cooling in the fridge to set, can I freeze the regular jars?

Yes, you can freeze regular mason jars.
With the can or freeze jars, you can remove the food before it’s melted. With some foods, that’s important.
Yes, be sure to leave 1/2 to 1 inch head space for expansion.
NO, you cannot use them in the freezer. If they are not the special freezer type of glass, they will break when the food freezes and begins to expand, possibly even blow up in your freezer. You can pour them over into the plastic freezer containers for that purpose. They are a lot less expensive than the jars are, you can find them easily at Walmart.
