The Freemasons are a fraternal organization. It is not a religion or a secret society.

Generally speaking, a mason is a job title. Like a brick mason or a stone mason.

A mason is a bricklayer.

A freemason belongs to secretive organization with a shady reputation.

I’m a Freemason, it can get a little confusing.

The full term is Freemason, but we also call ourselves Masons. We aren’t the same as the men who build walls, they’re usually stonemasons or brickmasons, but if you say I have to hire a mason everyone usually knows what you mean.

The Odd Fellows aren’t connected to the Masons- they are a different society.

32nd Degree Mason. That means a man who has become a Master Mason (three degrees) then joined the Scottish Rite (4 to 32 degrees, with the 33rd being a special honor). A 32nd Degree Mason isn’t any Higher than a 3rd Degree Mason, he’s just paid for additional degrees.

if you are talking about the fraternity, there is no difference between mason and freemason.

the odd fellows is a separate group. i am not one and will not presume to be able to speak about it.

freemasonry does not have a religious purpose.

32nd degree is the the last degree you can take in the scottish rite (the 33rd degree being an honrary degree). i chose the word last carefully because i did not want to say highest or anything suggesting level or rank… in the USA, and most parts of the world outside the UK, you can become a 32nd degree scottish rite mason in one weekend.
