The ritual differs from state to state and even lodge to lodge in some instances. If you join you will have plenty of time to memorize and plenty of people to help you do it. Its gonna be alot harder if you’re memorizing the wrong stuff. Just do it the usual way as all before you did. Good luck!

The material that you may need to memorize is not available to you until after you have completed the first degree, but I can tell you that it is most likely a set of questions and answers that you will recite along with another person who does the asking. It is basically them asking you a bunch of questions about what you saw during your first degree. Once you have taken the degree, they should give you a cipher which will be written in a sort of code that will help you.

Keep in mind that not everyone is perfect at performing ritual exemplification. I’ve seen many guys who turned out to be fine Masons who were TERRIBLE at their memorized exemplifications. The whole idea is that you at least show effort, and keep in mind that lodges have ritualists in lodge who will most likely help you along if you stumble.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. You’ll get all the help you need.

Once you join they will assign someone to help you learn everything. Don’t worry about it, I’ve never known anyone to not make it through because of memorization problems.

Some state Grand Lodge jurisdictions require more memorization than others, however; do not worry about the memorization work.

Most lodges also have an Education Officer. He is usually the Senior Warden of the lodge. Ask him if he can provide you with a mentor to help you.

If you are anxious about preparing yourself for your Entered Apprentice degree, talk to him and let him guide you as he has guided many others.

There are many of the brethren who have difficulty with memorization work, so he will fully understand your anxiety…and will be able to guide you without any embarrassment to yourself.

Memorization work is always much easier if you understand the meaning of the material which you must memorize.

If you would like to begin learning about Freemasonry at the lodge level; this is an excellent place to begin your Entered Apprentice training.
